Become Claire Bear – Our Much-Loved Mascot!
Do you love making people smile and don’t mind being a bit silly now and then? We’re on the lookout for enthusiastic volunteers to step into the paws of Claire Bear, our friendly and fun mascot!
As Claire Bear, you’ll attend a variety of events and community visits, helping us say a big “thank you” to our amazing supporters. It’s a light-hearted role that brings joy to children and adults alike, all while representing the heart of Claire House.
What’s Involved?
Before your first visit, a member of our team will show you how to get into the Bear suit and give you a few tips. Once you’re in costume, it’s over to you — wave, dance, pose for photos, and spread some smiles!
You might attend some visits solo, or be accompanied by another volunteer or staff member. You’ll always know the details in advance and can choose which opportunities suit your availability.
You’ll need to make your own way to and from each visit, and you may need to collect and return the costume to our Wirral office. We offer reasonable travel expenses to support this.
How It Works
We’ll add you to our Claire Bear volunteer WhatsApp group, where we share upcoming visit opportunities. Simply reply if you’re available! (If WhatsApp isn’t your thing, we’re happy to arrange another way to keep in touch.)
Once you’ve signed up for a visit, we’ll provide all the details you need — from who’ll meet you on site to what to expect on the day.
What We’re Looking For
We’re after someone who’s:

Friendly, cheerful, and full of positive energy

Happy being active and moving around in costume

Comfortable wearing the mascot head for short periods and okay with enclosed spaces

Confident enough to play a non-speaking role with lots of big gestures and fun interaction
Time Commitment
This is a flexible, ad-hoc role — ideal if you’re looking for something occasional and light-hearted.
Training & Support
Once we receive your application, we’ll be in touch to chat about the role and answer any questions. You’ll be fully trained on how to be the best Claire Bear you can be — from costume tips to dos and don’ts while out in the community.
