Sisters Emma and Issy decided they would like to help others and whilst searching the internet, found out about our Claire House Legend Award.
The Claire House Legend Award asks young people aged between 16 and 18 to complete 2-3 tasks that will help Claire House. Upon completion, they will receive a badge and certificate, along with new skills and experience to put on their CV. Tasks include spreading the word about what Claire House does, fundraising, helping in one of our shops, taking part in a challenge event, helping at an event or doing some research.
Sisters Emma and Issy chose to help at the Chester half marathon giving out medals, help at our retail shop in Neston and take part in a challenge event, for which they ran a 5k and 10k between them raising £60!
Emma kindly offered to answer some questions for us about how she found the award and why she thinks other people should take part as well:
Why did you take on the Legend award?
I took on the legend award because I wanted to do something that would go towards helping others and to challenge myself and see what I could do. It helped me appreciate what I have and I was happy to help raise money for the people who need it the most.
What did you enjoy about the Legend award?
I enjoyed seeing what I could do and putting myself to the challenge by running 10k, I loved how everyone came together. I also met many new friends at the Claire House charity shop and loved giving back to the community. I also enjoyed handing out the medals at Chester half marathon.
What have you got out of the Legend award?
I have gained resilience from my run, teamwork from the events I have helped at and the charity shop I helped in and appreciation and gratitude for what I have in this world; people have it a lot worse than I do and it helps to put it all in perspective.
Did you enjoy doing it and would you recommend others to sign up and do it with friends/family?
I enjoyed the legend award, it was such a rewarding and kind thing to do for Claire house and felt good that what I was doing was going towards terminally ill children and families suffering.
